Results from Bangkok - medals for the boys

Ned and Matt are home from Bangkok and carrying extra baggage - a Bronze medal each for the Cadet Team Foil competition. A great result for the guys, and wonderful news for the club.
It is also the first time an Australian Boys Cadet team has won a medal of any sort at Asian Championships!
VERY WELL DONE BOYS!!!
Earlier in the individual competition, there were 2 top-10 finishes (Ned 10th and Lucas 9th) and Matt finished 21st. Read the full reports from the National Foil Coach on the AFF website by clicking here and here

Lucas has his medal safely tucked away as he is still in Thailand, getting ready to fence in the Juniors on Friday (individual) and Sunday (teams).
Don't forget to congratulate Ned and Matt at training tomorrow night

Blacklords Fencers to Fight for Australia

Three club members have been selected to represent Australia in the 2011 Asian Junior and Cadet Fencing Championships in Bangkok, Thailand in March. Lucas Webber, Ned Fitzgerald and Matt Foster make up 3 of the 4 members of the Australian Cadet (U17) Foil squad - a great acheivement for the current U15 National Foil Team Champions. They will complete in the Individual events as well as the Team competition.
Lucas (current U15 National Foil Individual Champion) has also been selected for the Junior (U20) Individual and Team events. It will be the first International competition for all three, and they are training hard in preparation. We wish them all the best of luck and "Good Fencing"

We Have a New Floor

No more dusty, slippery and uneven floor - the club (via the Scouts!) now has a newly polished and repaired surface to train on. Early reports are all very positive with the greater grip and general lack of holes and other problems very much appreciated. Some agreement has yet to be reached regarding the marking of strips, but for now, fencing without lines is proving satisfactory.
Come down and try for yourself!

2011 Club Fees due

It's that time of year - click on the membership link to complete club membership for 2011

Coaching Qualifications - Blacklords has a Level 3 Coach!!

Congratulations to Rob Di Pasquale for gaining his Level 3 Foil coaching qualifications!
To follow his award of Diploma of Fencing (Foil) in Doha, Qatar in 2010, Rob completed a further gruelling examination on Saturday 29 January under the scrutiny of 3 AFF appointed examiners. Over two hours, Rob was tested in both the theory and practical aspects of Foil Fencing, with Lucas Webber the student for 3 separate 30 minute lessons on a topic chosen by the panel. The result is that Rob is one of only a few Level 3 (highest) Coaches in Victoria and Blacklords Fencing Club salutes his acheivement.
