19  Nov - Competition News

The Victorian Schools Championships today saw nother fantastic performance by Blacklords fencers across the three age groups in foil competition: U13, U15 and U20. Blacklords fencers took out 4 of the six gold medals on offer in the foil U13, U15 and U20 boys and the U20 girls and a total medal count of 4 gold, one silver and a bronze. Ned Fitzgerald won the gold in the under boys 13 category. In the U15 boys Lucas Webber took out the Gold with Sam Vero taking the silver medal.  Lucas and Sam backed up their performance to take Gold and Bronze respectively in the boys U20's. Jenna Yelland took out the Gold in the U20s girls foil and in so doing retook the state number one ranking for under 13 girls foil division.   In addition, Matt foster, Gabe Bartel, Gabe Spano, and Sally Lovegrove also performed very well.  Keep up the good work.  2008 has been a very good year for our Junior and we congratulate you all.

15 Sept - Competition update

The past 6 weeks have seen some more great performances from Blacklords fencers highlighting the talent that is developing in our Junior brigade. We now have one or more fencers in the top 4 at each of the age  divisions for foil, with the top ranking in the both the boys and girls U13 Foil currently held by Lucas Webber and Jenna Yelland respectively. The following is summary of the competition outcomes over this period (if I missed anything please let me know).

July 5-9: U15 & U17 National Championships
Three of our junior fencers (Sam Vero, Ned Fitzgerald and Jenna Yelland) were part of the Victorian Team that took home the Janet Haswell cup.  It was a great experience for all of them.  Jenna was selected in to both U15 and U17 girls foil B-team each of with finished in 3rd place.

July 20: FV Open & Veteran Foil
Another successful day for the club with Zoltan Vilagosh taking the gold in the Veteran’s Foil and Rob Di Pasquale the silver in Open Men’s Foil.  An exciting sign for the club is the number of Junior fencers chancing their arms in an Open Foil event with Lucas Webber finishing in the top 8 in the men’s event and Jenna Yelland and Sally Lovegrove finishing 4th and 5th respectively in the Women’s event, the Victorian Women’s Cup

July 27: Fioretto U13 Challenge
It was good to see a strong representation of our fencers at this event. Lucas Webber’s winning form continued taking first place, Gabe Spano had his best result thus far finishing 4th and Alan Lun won gold in the B-division.  Congratulations to all those that competed, and to the parents that braved a very chilly and wet Sunday morning to support their children and the club.  A more detailed account of competition can be found on the Fioretto’s web site.

Aug 17: Novice and B-grade
A good result for our female fencers with Sally Lovegrove and Julie Ellis taking out the gold and silver respectively in the women’s novice competition and Jenna Yelland finished with bronze in the women’s B-Grade (Open) competition.

Aug 31: Victorian School/Club Team Championships
Blacklords entered two teams and fished the day with two medals.  Blacklords A (Sam Vero, Lucas Webber and Ned Fitzgerald) came away with the gold medal while Blacklords B (Sally Lovegrove, Mat Foster and Alan Lun) finished with the bronze medal.  Well done!

Sep 14: U13 & U20 State Championship
A long day of competition yesterday finished with another great performance from our juniors.  Lucas Webber and Ned Fitzgerald taking out silver and bronze medals respectively in the U13 boys foil with Matt Foster achieving his first top 8 finish in a FV competition and Gabe Bartel took out the bronze in Tableau B.  Jenna Yelland took out the silver in the U13 girls foil and backed this up with a 5th in the U20 girls foil.  The day ended with Lucas and Matt competing in the U20 boys foil with Lucas finishing with the bronze medal. Lucas has medaled at the State Championships in all four age groups for boys foil in 2008.

30 June - A one week break from training

There will be a 1 week off from fencing from 30th June Monday to Sunday the 6th of July. This will mean that on Monday the 30th of June, Thursday the 3rd of July and Saturday the fifth of July the club will not be training. Rob was thinking of a BBQ for the Saturday afternoon would go down well. It may also be a good time to do a social thing on one or both of the days (Monday, Thursday). If anyone has any ideas Please email Rob.

29 June - Congratulations to Lucas and Zoltan: 

State U15 and 17 Championships The recent Victorian U15 and U17 Championships saw a remarkable performance from Lucas Webber.  Lucas won the gold medal in both the U15 and U17 Foil competition. 2008 AFF #2 Robyn Chaplin Memorial Tournament Zoltan Vilagosh has continued his good form this winning the gold medal in the Men's Sabre competition.

27 May - Blacklords junior perform well again:  

At the Sword Fighter's Australia Junior Competition on Sunday 25 May Lucas Webber took the gold medal in the under 13 foil, Ned Fitzgerald took the silver and Sam Vero finished 4th in the under 15 boys foil.  In other results Sam Vero finished 7th in the under 20 foil and Gabe Spano finished 12th in the under 13 foil.  Well done all.  See the Sword Fighters Australia web site for the full results.

27 April - More success:  Juniors do it again

Blacklords Junior fencers have again enjoyed success today with Lucas Webber taking silver and Ned Fitzgerald the bronze in the under 13 boys foil and Jenna Yelland taking the out the silver in the under 13 girls foil and finishing 4th in the under 20 girls foil.  Well done to all the juniors who competed today. 20 April - Continued success for the Blacklords

16 March - Good start to the competition year

Blacklords' fencers have begun the competition year well with medals in all three state level competitions so far this year. 

Victorian Club Team Foil
Two teams from Blacklords were entered with the team of Rob Di Pasquale, Zoltan Vilagosh, and Sam Vero taking out the Gold medal in a close fought battle with a team from VRI.  The second Blacklords team of Adam and Sally Lovegrove and Jenna Yelland gained valuable experience in their first open level competition.

State Open Individual Competition
Zoltan and Rob continued their good form with gold and silver medals respectively in the Open Men's Foil.  Zoltan backed this up with Gold in the Veteran Men's Foil and Silver in the Open Men's Sabre.

John Fethers Golden Foil
It was a great start for the juniors also. Sally Lovegrove and Jenna Yelland took out the gold and silver respectively in the Under 15 girls foil and Jenna also took the bronze in the Under 13 girls foil.  The boys  performed well also with Lucas Webber taking silver and Ned Fitzgerald the bronze in the under 13 boys foil.  Congratulations to all our junior fencers who competed.
